Joel Nilsson, Production Technician
Joel Nilsson began his journey at Axelent through his final thesis project and has since grown into his role as a Production Technician. Today, he works closely with production development, problem solving and data driven improvements, combining technical analysis with hands-on involvement in the factory environment.
Can you tell us about your journey from education to your role as a Production Technician at Axelent?
My education ended with a thesis project that became my entry point into Axelent. I worked on a digital project connected to one of our production lines in the Hillerstorp factory. After spending a couple of years working as a consultant within the group, I later applied for a position at Axelent AB and joined the team permanently.
You did your thesis work connected to Axelent. How did that influence your decision to continue working here?
During my thesis, I created a digital twin of one of our production lines in a simulation software called Delmia. The goal was to test different changes without affecting real production time.
I found it extremely exciting to see how a real production line could be built digitally and how small changes could influence the output. That experience made me want to continue working with simulations and production development, and it confirmed that Axelent was the right environment for me.
What do you find most exciting about your work as a Production Technician?
The variation. Some days involve large projects that reshape parts of the production flow. Other days are about detailed investigations, interviews or collecting data to understand exactly what works and what does not.
I enjoy the balance between analysing problems at the office and being out in the production environment, seeing plans become reality.
How have you developed professionally since joining Axelent?
I used to assume that things would solve themselves. Over time I learned that progress requires someone to take ownership and drive action.
I have also learned that assumptions create problems. It is important to understand why something works the way it does. Guesswork can easily turn into bigger issues later on.
What support or opportunities have helped you grow in your role?
My colleagues have been a huge support. They helped me understand the workplace and were always available when I needed advice. My managers have also played an important role as mentors and sounding boards for my development.
There is a strong culture of openness here. If you ask a question, people help. In the beginning I probably asked a lot of basic questions, but that is part of learning.
What would you say to someone considering starting their career at Axelent?
It is a great place to work. Not only do we create products that indirectly save lives, but we also have great people behind those products. That combination makes Axelent a very special workplace.
